I don't know which motor I want to build now ...

As you know, if you been keeping up with this thread, I'm wanting to build a stroker 454 BBC motor ...

Started to build a 454 2-bolt main ..
Got pretty far into the build on it..

Spent a few bucks on it ..
Then I ran up on a 4-bolt main block, that's when 496 stroker bug bit me ..

Ok, not alot of backing up was going to be needed to run the 4-bolt stroker ..

Until I found a 2003 8.1L 496 CI Gen
VII .... Eek
Not much of the Mark IV parts that I bought will work on the Gen VII ..

The boat motor oil pan won't fit, timing cover is different, cam not going to work, the 2003 motor uses a roller cam ..

Kind of thinking to stay with the old school Mark IV due to all the work I've done so far ... More thought will go down before I make a decision on which motor to build ..

I'd stick with the 454, but of course that's JMO. You may have to flip a coin. :D2

Okay, after some serious thought, going to continue to build the Mark IV ..

I went and picked up the Gen VII 496 ci, it's still on the trailer along with a Gen VI 454 ci that happen to jump onboard ..
The Gen VI has a factory roller cam, one piece rear main seal was produced from 1996 to 2001, and the Gen VII (Vortec 8100) began production in 2001 to 2009 ..

Both of these late model Big Blocks are butt ugly IMO ..
They lack the looks of the early BB's ..
Take a bucket full of green to get them to look good ...

Not sure what I'll do with them just yet, might build em back to stock and flip em ? .. Or part em out ...

Interesting Vid ..

The 8.1 would get up and go, but they're very thirsty creatures. :D2

Got a feeling that the 454 stroked & bored to 496 cubes will be right beside the 8.1L ..
Still looking for tank number three ..

I have the IH Oem 16 ga left side tank and a 30 ga center tank, but I have been searching for the factory optional auxiliary 16 ga right side tank for about 3 years ..

Be super nice to have that Nos dash fuel gauge switch (That puppy was very hard to find) working in all three modes ..

Okay, after some serious thought, going to continue to build the Mark IV ..

Did some backing up on the 4-bolt 496" Mark IV motor ...
Not something I wanted to do, was needing to buy some tools so I could work the 781 heads so I sold the 4-bolt main block ...

Bowl hog takes out meat really fast ..
With oversize valves going in, got a need for this tool ...

The fellow who bought the 4-bolt block wants me to finish building it ..
Since it was needing a crank, rods and pistons, game plan was to get a rotating assembly, so the 496" stroker is still in play..

Also sold him the heads off my 2-bolt 454" motor ... The 781 heads will be going on that motor, in time I'll run up on another 4-bolt Mark IV block and build it to 496 cubes ..

Had the need to know the camber volume in order to have around 9.5 to 1 compression ...
Another tool was needed ..

516730868_10234526306077499_3326608214176449807_n.jpg

It was 118 cc's ... Pistons for the rotating assembly needs to have about a 12 cc dome ..
