Yeah, that is the easiest way of a having a USB connection but I love to complicate my life and prefer to have the device permanently installed.

I was still thinking permanent install like you have, but instead of stepping from 120v AC to 5v DC which is what you are doing, using the internals of a cig lighter adapter it would just be stepping from 12v DC to 5v DC. Still would look the same as what you did. I like how yours turned out.

Yeah thats how I did it in my truck too. Both methods work, I just had the parts on hand to do it the way you described.

Nice install Leo!

Very nice install! I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to do that in my truck right now too. But I haven't gotten as far as drilling holes yet because I don't have a Dremel to cut them out with. Do you have any suggestions? I want to keep it towards the front of the truck, but I just had the crazy idea of making a cooler that will fit snugly between the dash and my center console

^^^ Yeah, just use a drill bit which diameter is close to the same size as the receptacle's width then use a file to file off the four corners ( X on the picture down below)

Thanks  I never thought of that, I guess I just like doing things the hard way... Or I just need an excuse to buy another tool. hahahaha

Later I though 1 more lil hole in the expi wouldn't hurt. I needed a usb connection so I can charge my phone and Ipod.

So I bought this USB output for $6.00

Then I open it up and took the guts out

That sounds like something I'd say.

Where are you getting those switches and for about how much? I like the blue switch and I'm wondering if I can get it without that cover (to knock a few $s off). I upgraded my stereo and I'm thinking about covering up the little shelf below the head unit and moving my switches up so they will be easer to reach. I can't find the blue switches I like anymore.

Nice Clean Install

First off I would like to say you did a great job. I love the clean look and prefer this look to having to carry the kind that plug into the cigar lighters.

I am looking at doing the same thing to my 2010 Expedition. I pulled the console Panel off but do not have room under the console due to the internal compartment? Did you have to remove the internal compartment permanently or just removed it to install and then able to put it back? If not how did you get it to fit under the console.

Also how did you mount it to the floor? Is it OK to just screw right to the floor? Do I need to worry about whats on the other side?

Thanks.
