I only have to fill up once every 2 weeks. Fuel getting expensive only slightly effects me.

I'm with you on this... I maybe fill up once every 2 weeks.. More on the 3 week side and that is filling up from half tank.

I will probably buy a car once the truck is paid for.. But the wife has a Terrain that is avg like 24-25mpg that we take most of the time for long trips

looking hard at the new 2011 elantra...nice highway numbers but I would have to test drive one for a little while to see what my numbers would be.

It's a pretty decent looking package. If I were looking at small cars, I'd give it a good long look too.

They're really not bad little cars (for a little car) and good mileage. I got 34mpg abusing a rental Elantra around Houston.

I was spending $100 per week on gas ($80 a week m-f to get to work) about a month ago.

My gf told me to start staying over M-F since she lives about 2 miles from where I currently work.

I am now spending $30-$40 per week depending on how much I drive outside of driving to work. And we are also using her Lexus IS250 more whenever we go somewhere unless we need to haul something in the truck.

Other than that, I have thought about buying a Jetta TDI after paying off my truck but honestly my lifestyle (right now) really does not leave me much of a choice but to have a truck. For example:

I like riding my dirtbike. The areas I ride to are very hard to get to and having not only a truck but a 4x4 at that is basically a necessity. Unless I make my CRF450r street legal get a bigger tank and regear so that I can ride to my riding areas.

I like shooting and the areas where I go shooting are also right next to where I go ride. Look at my sig and you get an idea of the terrain. The nearest shooting range is about 40-45 minutes from my house compared to 10-15 minutes where I go now. Also I don't have to pay any memberships or anything like that.

Those two examples are of things I do very often. My gf (soon to be wife) wants a quad to go riding with me so we will probably have to get a trailer. I also like to go fishing and fitting fishing rods inside a trunk with all other gear and cooler etc. is kind of a pain.

So if I can't afford to do those things anymore I will not drive a truck anymore.

Oh and it helps that my gf does not want me driving anything but a truck. I told her about getting a TDI Jetta and she looked at me and said "I don't see you as a type of guy to drive a car...any car" I think she is a keeper.:)
