NASCAR died when the teams were no longer allowed to scratch-build their own cars... and we ended up with huge sponsorship whore multi car teams.

IMHO the SPORT was gone by the time Dale Earnhardt died.

I won't be watching. Apparently I am not alone.

:chipper:

1st bold--Those were the days of nascar...every team had their own personality and a car that didn't look like the rest of 'em.

2nd bold...If Dale were here today, I'd bet he'd be livid as hell. He's been rolling over in his grave for quite some time. :(

They actually did it to due to fact that you could win the most races and still lose the championship to someone who was more consistently in the top 5/10. They also wanted to stop the situation that would happen every few years where someone would have the championship all but locked up with 6-7 races to go.

And I completely get that. But, this new elimination b.s. they started 2 or 3 yrs ago... At first, I kinda liked it. But, the longer it went on, the more it seems like they are "creating" drama than letting it unfold on the track. :dunno:

Side note...Jimmie never won a non-chase championship, his first was in 2006, the chase began in 2004. :))

Exactly, so they changed "the points system / Chase format" (pretty much the same thing, IMO, if I've only been up about an hour) to "slow him down." He was tearing UP the old Chase format. So, they kept jacking with it to give other guys a chance.

ah, gotcha...i wasn't understanding that you were referring entirely to post-"Chase" stuff...I was done when the Chase was first started in 2004, I've barely followed the rule changes since. but yes, everything they're doing is all about manufacturing drama. I liked the drama in the 70s/80s better...fist fights in the infield were WAY more fun :)

It seems as if Nascar has fallen further and further toward the politically correct side of the spectrum trying to make it fair for everybody. **** the...may the best man win scenario. Like whats his name and Stewart getting into the chase for winning won race last year...:wtf?:

Right. It's all about TV ratings / "putting on a good show," not making the racing better. :(

I think it will hurt the ratings.

I can see them losing more and more fans over this shit. I watched a special on the 1979 Daytona 500 the other day. That was balls to the wall racing back then. Ha, the cars didn't all look the same either. The France family has ruined NASCAR...plain and simple!

I'll watch Daytona to see how it goes.
