NASCAR Is Going Full Sportsball With Races Divided Into Segments

Now I know why Edwards quit, he couldn't figure out the points system :rollin:

NASCAR races will now be divided into three segments at certain intervals—with 10-minute breaks. The segments will be based on each individual track’s length, which will reportedly be specified later this month. Championship points will be awarded based on the running order at the end of each segment. Pit road will be closed for five laps, and at then end of the each stage the top 10 drivers will be awarded from 10 points to one point. At the end of the race, the winner will win 40 points, and second-through-35th place will be awarded on a scale of two-to-35 points. All lower positions get one point each.

The winner of each individual stage will be awarded one playoff point. The overall race winner will win five additional playoff points and a spot in the playoffs. Regular season playoffs will determine which drivers make it, and then all points reset, but the regular season points leader, who carries 15 points into playoffs.

The pussification of the sport has now finally pushed me to the point where I no longer care to watch or follow it. IMHO...this is stupid!

I stopped watching nascar regularly in the late 90s, mostly because I was busy racing on sundays myself. but even if i hadn't gotten out of it...."the chase" was bad enough. This is just ignorant. They're going to put the final nail in the coffin with this one.

The idea of another year of Nascar picks was floating around, I was gearing up to do it. Honestly, now I'm questioning if I'm even going to watch this year.

If the complaint is that races are too long, then how is introducing 20 minutes of "not-racing" going to improve it? 10 F*ing minutes of time to fill, it can't all be commercials, going to be a lot of talking head nonsense. Half-time shows? How many highlights can there be in 150 or so laps?

What a clusterfuck.............
Werd... what happened to the days of just racing cars. SMH

I'll probably watch Daytona and maybe one or two after that to see how this new system works. But, I suspect that I may not tune back in until the end of the season IF one of the guys I normally root for is in the final-few. :dunno:

Between the new screwy system and FoxSports' typical problems, it's very hard to motivate

I can't believe I'm saying this, but... Screw 'em. I vote for not doing the picks.

This cluster**** of a points system. It seems like more crap to create fake drama and more "luck" b.s. to create more uncertainty for the IDIOT announcers to talk about and speculate on during those STUPID breaks.

Maybe we'll get part-way into the season and realize we've over-reacted and maybe we'll kick ourselves for not doing the picks (if that's what we do), but I vote for skipping them this year.
