Between the new screwy system and FoxSports' typical problems, it's very hard to motivate

I can't believe I'm saying this, but... Screw 'em. I vote for not doing the picks.

This cluster**** of a points system. It seems like more crap to create fake drama and more "luck" b.s. to create more uncertainty for the IDIOT announcers to talk about and speculate on during those STUPID breaks.

Maybe we'll get part-way into the season and realize we've over-reacted and maybe we'll kick ourselves for not doing the picks (if that's what we do), but I vote for skipping them this year.

I was on the fence as to whether or not I even wanted to do them this year, but this "new" format has pushed me even further from a sport I used to really enjoy. They just keep fucking it up.

Yeah. Up to a point, I thought some of the other complaints about the new setup (prior to this most recent crap) were over-blown and "people just not liking change." But... This new crap is a blatant effort to create fake drama. The Chase elimination crap is a blatant effort to create "drama" moreso than it is a means for crowning the best Champion.

The way I have read this new points system, the guy who finishes the race "first" MAY not actually have the most points?! :wtf?:

Naaah, that's bullshit. I'm feeling done with their crap. :dunno:

I liked the old Winston Cup style of racing. The "chase" never really set in with me. I know you don't care, but do you realize how many championships Harvick would have under the old system? He has led in points by quite a margin up to the chase. JJ sure would not have won 7 championships under the old format.

I'm sorry, but that's like saying Trump really lost the election because "Hillary won the popular vote." That's not the "system" they were operating under / trying to win in. He ran his campaign based on electoral college votes, not popular vote. If he had been looking for popular vote, he would've run a different campaign and "I'm SURE" he would've spent a lot of time in California, trying to get the people who ARE more conservative leaning (or at least were anti-Hillary) to get out and vote. But, he knew he couldn't win California, she would get all the electoral college votes, so why waste the time?

So... "I don't care" (your words) because Harvick would've raced differently in a different points system. They changed the points system (I think) to "slow down Jimmie Johnson." And they did, for a few years. Yet, he still found a way to win this last season, as contrived as that last-race-for-it-all-bullshit-is.

IMO, anyone who was eligible for the Chase who WINS in the Chase should be eligible for advancement through all the rounds and maybe have the last three races be for all the marbles, not just ONE race, where bad luck, a blown tire, A bad restart, etc. can knock you out of it, no matter how well you ran the rest of the frikkin' season.

Tomato, tamotto, it ain't worth getting into a pissing match about. I, like you, will probably watch Daytona like I do every year at my BIL's house. I can't say that I'll watch any, or even follow the sport after that. :dunno:

I don't know, man. Heat-style races every now and then are fine. But, having this "let's take a break for a while" twice in every fWONkin' race of the season!? NO! :pfingers: @ NASCAR

They actually did it to due to fact that you could win the most races and still lose the championship to someone who was more consistently in the top 5/10. They also wanted to stop the situation that would happen every few years where someone would have the championship all but locked up with 6-7 races to go.

Side note...Jimmie never won a non-chase championship, his first was in 2006, the chase began in 2004. :))

You have a point about racing different based on the rules as they stand but purely for fun here's what it would look like under the old rules:

Jeff Gordon would have 7 titles, not 4
Kevin Harvick would have 3 titles
Jimmie Johnson would have 3 titles, not 7

Same basic rule structure worked for 55 years and made it one of the most popular sports in the country. Now fans are bailing in droves. You used to have to get lucky to get tickets to the new hampshire race...now they can't fill the place even with massive clearance prices on the ticket the month before the race.

NASCAR died when the teams were no longer allowed to scratch-build their own cars... and we ended up with huge sponsorship whore multi car teams.

IMHO the SPORT was gone by the time Dale Earnhardt died.

I won't be watching. Apparently I am not alone.
