HID kit + glare = find a solution

What are you making them out of, and how are you attaching them to the bulb base, or are you opening the lenses and attaching them to the housing?

All are things I'm gonna work on! To start I'm going to use aluminum from a soda can. There are several cans I know of that are 3-4x thicker than a regular can. I've seen people using this material on other forums with no problems.

Seems like a valid idea. The only possible downside I see is it may shorten the life of the bulb if it reflects too much heat.

I was thinking the same thing. Even though HIDs burn at a lower temperature than halogens, any reflector that they are exposed to will increase how hot they burn. Even so, DDM has lifetime warranties.

interesting, i`ve been running mine for over 2 weeks, and have only been flashed once, and it was in the daytime. but i can tell alot of light escapes the important areas.

The F150 housings are designed different, though, which may be why. Even if you don't get flashed, though, that doesn't mean it isn't extremely bright for others. I often pass people with HID kits that are extremely bright, but I don't bother flashing because I know that they are low beams and it wouldn't do any good. By far the biggest difference I've noticed after taking them out is stopping at red lights. I used to blind every person I pulled behind that was in a vehicle smaller than mine. I'd often get the finger sitting at red lights if I didn't flip it to parking lights while stopped. With halogens I don't.


It's just gonna be trial and error as to whether or not this will work. I think it should be doable finding something to at least get rid of the top part of the excessive glare. If I can do that I'll consider it a success.

sub'd. i need this for my offroad lights when i can figure out how to get the HID's to fit in them. they just barely clear the front lens but the way the brace is on the lights i might need to find some deep dish 6 inchers to use.

I'll likely be ordering new HIDs on the 18th. Then it would just depend on how long DDM takes to ship them. From reading around, they have a longer wait now that the prices have dropped and their sales are up.
