I found this a few days ago, but the "how do they test?" thing seemed to die down. So, I didn't post it then..

Carl, my guess would be "yes," they probably stay out of the boost..
So wouldn't real world numbers just driving around be at least a bit lower since you will be in "boost" more often? Secondly a NA engine likes a bit of gear behind it to help it get moving. When you look at a turbocharged engine, a higher gear (numercially lower) will actually load the engine and make boost earlier than if they had a lower gear.

People who drive like my dad are guaranteed to get the EPA ratings...

He'd consistantly get 22MPG + out of the old '93 Suburban on the highway...

Light throttle will be the key...

Then again, a Subaru WRX STi is rated for 23 MPG on the highway...

From what I've been reading (test drives and such), people are getting higher than the EPA ratings for both city and highway driving. Only time will tell.

You guys DO realize how much power this engine makes AND the fact that it's planted in a 5000 pound brick right?

Until aerodynamics are improved and a lot of weight is cut, the fuel mileage is not going to improve much in a full sized truck.

Physics.

Thank you.

Regardless of the fuel mileage I'm impressed. I don't care if it was GM that had created this engine, I'd still be impressed. I think a few people got their panties in a bunch because Ford is making the news about it. Sorry I may be wrong, but...

well mine has 3.73`s and is rted for 10400#s, 11,300 is signifigantly more.

My '04 5.4 3.73 is rated for 11,000 :)

In order to meet federal guidelines and deal with predicted rising fuel costs, trucks are going to have to get lighter and smaller displacement engines are going to become the norm.

I know many people refuse to believe this... but it is coming.

I pity the day.. I'm not looking forward to the day where trucks may not be available with a V8.....
