he said it has gaskets and stuff too...I'm liking the upgrade mojo...but that comes with replacing a bunch of other stuff..I want the stuff I have to work so I guess I'm going exact replacement. 4.3L...like the $850 one, 33,000 miles from a silverado...I'd say exact swap, like turning back the clock on the engine I have. Hell he may have some stuff still hooked to it, make my job easier..

It would sure be worth checking out...

Good luck

I'd check into this Ninja. Also see if you can get him down on the price. If I remember, your truck is pretty much a base model isn't? Just go with the 4.3 for the cheap patch, and 33K, is just a broke in motor. Even if they didn't ever change the oil in that 33,000 you still have a like new motor. You maintain it right, from here on out, you should be able to 177,000 miles out of it if its a factory standard engine. Save your bucks, keep the better fuel economy, and less tickets for now, and then instead of upgrading the engine, upgrade trucks at a later date. JMO and what I'd do with a base model standard cab truck.

I agree with all of that, except the last sentence. MY truck is a base model standard cab truck! :fume:

Not knocking base model at all. I tend to like base models for roughing up or not have to worry about getting the carpet dirty etc, just saying, the bang for the buck. Keep his Base truck for work and decent fuel economy, and when funds are better, get him a nicer Cooter getting rig with a V8, not that he couldn't in a base model either. But you know what I mean. A nicer more plush ride with some bells and whistles. If I recall Ninja has a lawn car biz, and needs fuel economy to keep his profits up.
BTW Ninja, not only sorry to hear about this, but the wrong damn time of year to isn't it? You were probably about to get up and running again weren't you?

Except that the 350 is likely to do better on gas than the 4.3 :(

That's why my dads '93 Suburban with a 350 got better gas mileage than my Blazer

I'll agree the 4.3 V6 isn't the most fuel efficent engine, but it would sure take an ass load of discipline for the 350 to get better mpg. I know myself, I couldn't do it. The power is addictive, and if I got it, I am gonna use it.

When I borrowed the Suburban and drove it the way I drive my Blazer it got the same or better MPG :(

I think anything heavier than an S10 is too much weight for the 4.3 to haul regularly for the best mileage :dunno:

I have a 2006 4.3 in a "FULL SIZE WORK VAN."
It is always loaded with my work stuff.
Around 1000 pounds of cargo at all times.

It gets a consistent 17 or so here in town, and close to 20 on the highway.
I think that is pretty good for as much weight as it is pulling. :dunno:

I don't see where a 350 would get any better than that.

I have had "3" previous 4.3's before this one.
They all got about the same mileage.

oh.... and with a BlackBear tune....it runs fairly decent also. :) :) :)

yes I was going to get started here in the next 2 weeks, worst time of year for this,

also, got a call from a reputable engine swap place, says they have a new, not rebuilt, gm crate 4.3 for $2000....$500 install, I'll see if I can work him down, but I bet I'm still gonna find the best deal when shcrams gets back with me tomorrow.

v8 has too much other stuff needed to be running and I don't have that kinda dough on top of whatever it would cost to get a v8.
