That's a clean truck shouldn't be too hard to sell at that price, around me ones in worse shape cost about 19000 and they sell but that's where I live, don't know your region. I give you credit though you are actually thinking about bettering yourself, there are too many people in this time that are just getting deeper and deeper in debt and not wanting to give up anything in order to get out. I just don't know if I could part with my truck but its paid off so hopefully I don't need to... GL either way whatever you chose to do.

I would sell it in a heartbeat if with the amount of debt you mentioned earlier.

I have always lived by Dave's financial principles (even before I heard of the guy) and they have served me very well.

I spent 8mo looking for my Z71 and 5mo looking for my ZR2. Trust me, looking is fun, but also sucks!

I'm not going to give you advice as I have no experience in the matter. If it were me, I'd keep the truck and pay more than the minimum (as much as I could afford) each month to get everything paid off faster.

That's what I'm thinking now. I have enough income now (luckily got a good job) that I can double-up payments and have it paid off in a year. I think it would be worth it to do that......then it would be mine and I would be assured that I have a vehicle that's been cared for properly. If I did that then I'd run this truck into the ground.....and I assume that would take a long time.

Wtf Matt..... Where was that offer back in MAY!???

I definitely would have considered it. I would have only been in the red $9k! And achieved a murdered out well modded truck hat wasn't beaten on.

I hope you don't sell, but if you do I hope you profit well and get the vehicle you want next buddy!

Student loans have entered repayment. Those combined with credit cards put me in pretty serious debt (majority student loans). I've read Dave Ramsey's book and been following his podcasts.

I've just decided to get my priorities straight. I need to get rid of this truck payment and get out of debt ASAP. If I can get ~20K out of it I can buy a reliable beater for a couple grand and have a couple more grand left over to knock out some of my debt. The quicker I get out of debt the happier my life will be. If I have to drive something crappy for a few years.....so be it.

Good on ya. Debt free is the way to go. I had to cool it on the mods for my truck a while back so that I could just man up and pay it off. Now if I could only get the Mrs. RIV Customz to do that with her scion. She is upside down on that thing 2 fold!

Your truck is great. Make sure to sell to a private buyer and good luck.

Yikes Matt, sell the truck??!!?? Especially when you've landed yourself a full-time engineering job?

I agree wholeheartedly that being debt free is awesome, but odds are it'll be a long, long time before you're really debt free. How many people here are still paying at least a mortgage?

Anyways, I was in the same boat you are, had $10k+ racked up in credit card debt, had about $60k in student loans and had just bought the truck. Did I put myself in a good position, absolutely not. However, I paid off the credit cards first and cut all of them up except 2. There's my US Airways VISA that's tied to my other accounts at BOA which gets paid off every week or so. I use it to buy everything and that helps build up my frequent flier points, and there's an emergency card I never use.

Next I paid the truck off and am working on the student loans now. The kicker is, my student loan interest rate is so low, like less than 3%, that any extra money is better spent in other accounts that can make more than 3%.

I kept it simple and paid off the debt that had the highest interest rate first. Since I have a relatively secure job I feel comfortable extending the period of my debt a little while longer while building savings at the same time.

Have you considered a graduated repayment plan for your student loans? You pay less for the first 2 or 4 years, then more on the years after that. The idea is 2-4 years later you'll be making more money, have paid off other debt, etc, and can afford a higher student loan payment. I did that for 2 years and I'm still only paying $670 and will be paid off in 10 years or so (iirc), if I don't make any increased payments.

To me, the enjoyment I get out of the truck was well worth the couple extra bucks I could have saved over those years.
