That $499 price point includes installation from BestBuy. Their installation has a lifetime guarantee. That's not a guarantee on the unit, but if for any reason the wires work loose, etc., they'll fix it free for life. I had them install my 5301 kit and it's working great. There were a couple of small hiccups but they got it right and it's been fine ever since.

You will have to pay extra for the bypass unit though since it's not considered part of the "basic" installation.

If you can find someone reputable locally to install it and then guarantee their work for life, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, I'd suggest paying the $499 plus the cost of the module and being certain that if you ever have issues, there will be someone there to fix it.

Good point. And the small "hiccup" you mentioned, I remember that! It was an issue that the "pros" at best buy had no clue how to fix. I told you exactly what the problem was and what needed to be done to fix it. That's kinda sad that you had to go explain to the installers how to get it working right. :dunno:

So will BB install it if I bring it to them? If I can get the system for cheaper from elsewhere and bring it in to them I wonder If they'll be able to install it for less than $499 :dunno:

I'm just trying to save some pennys on the install

Our local one will not do any outside installs. Only the product that they sell.

I suppose you could ask your store.

So I asked a question on Best Buy's Q & A..

Question: Will you install a remote starter/security system if I purchased elsewhere?

I have purchased a new Viper 5901 Remote Start/Security system for my 2005 Ford F150. Will Best Buy install it or does it need to be purchased from the store? I know I would need the PATS BYPASS, but what would installation cost? Thanks!

Answer:

for the install and the bypass you are probably in the $300 ballpark.

From one of their "Top Ten Contributers"

Seems pretty high to me.. but what do I know..

They are probably doing that to make up the difference :dunno:

So no matter what they want you to pay $500
