What does everyone do with their old oil filters when they change their oil? I found out that most Wal-Mart's lube centers will take them for you. That way they don't end up in the land fill.

I basically keep mine turn upside down for a day or so and then when I get about 6 or so I take them to Wal-Mart for them to dispose of along with my used oil.

Just doing my part to keep Mother Earth green.

I know it's a state regulation in many places, but I believe that it's also a Federal regulation that any place that performs oil changes has to accept both used oil and filters for disposal.

In NY it's a state reg that any place that sells oil or filters must accept up to 5 gallons of used oil and (I think) 4 used filters, per person, per day. This even applies to places that don't do repair work, which is why you seldom find quarts of oil sold at supermarkets and convenience stores in NY state.

Managed a three bay service station in NYC for 6 years. :)

Oh, and (at least in NY) they are not allowed to charge any fees for this.

How far are you off I-95 where 17 meets it? I get off I-95 there and take 17 up to Winchester. We are looking at making a trip back home to Pa. this Aug. We stop there and eat at 5 Guys. YUM.

I'm almost exactly 5 miles off I-95 in the other direction (East) on 17, to where it becomes 218 and a little beyond. That's the 133 exit on I-95, but if you're going to 5 Guys then you're probably getting off at the next exit south, which is Rt 3, and going to the one in the Central Park shopping area, unless there's one closer to me I don't know about?

On Saturday mornings you can usually find me (if I'm not working) at the Perkins Bakery & Restaurant right there at the 133 exit, in the Ham Radio room they have there. Most of the hams in this area meet there on Saturday mornings between 8 AM and 10 AM for a combination of breakfast, club meetings, ham radio exam sessions and just generally to shoot the bull. If my big white GMC is there then I'm there. :)

Take 2 filters, and 12qts of oil to the station down the hill from me. Since my pan is 12qt I fill it with 2 oil changes then store it with the filters upside down the entire time its stored, which is usually 3 months for the first one, a week or whenever I get to taking it all down to empty.

Mine uses a cannister filter, so it's easy enough to trash it. There's a used oil filter place where I go to dump my oil, so I just pitch it after I've drained the oil out of my pans.:drinking:
