My dad burns the used oil in their house. But I may have to start bringing my filters in the the local places. I used to drop off the used oil at O'Reillys or some place like it.

I know it's a state regulation in many places, but I believe that it's also a Federal regulation that any place that performs oil changes has to accept both used oil and filters for disposal.

In NY it's a state reg that any place that sells oil or filters must accept up to 5 gallons of used oil and (I think) 4 used filters, per person, per day. This even applies to places that don't do repair work, which is why you seldom find quarts of oil sold at supermarkets and convenience stores in NY state.

Here its no more than 5 gallons per person per month, not per day. At least thats what I was told at both Autozone, and Walmart.

Well ANYBODY with more than five gallons of used oil per month is running a business and would be expected to take care of the used oil themselves.

I take mine to my local dump, they have a recycling center right next door to the dumpsters

Same as most, I take it to the nearest place that accepts them

take it over too my buddies, and put the oil in the oil burner, and the filters in the metal hopper
