Really it is personal preference on which you would want to go with. We had an AWD, but also lived in Virginia for much of its life.

2WD is quicker and a lot less expensive to keep alive - plus it will get a little better MPG - and you don't live in the land of snow or ice.

Actually, the 2WD has 3.73 gears and the AWD 4.10s, so the AWD gets off the line quicker.
BUT

Road tests I've seen from the period don't give any timed advantage to the AWD version. I guess the gears just make up for the extra pounds. 6.7 0-60 and 15.1 in the quarter aren't exactly going to win many drag races either way. IIRC, early models were AWD only though.

Yeah 03 and 04 are only awd.

In 05 to make the trucks more affordable they gave you the choice between 2 or 4 dig and cloth option seats.

pwned!

I say AWD

Not necessarily. I know a lot of cars that leave quick and run harder with lower numerical gear ratios.

I still say RWD. Less weight. Less maintenance. If you go adding lots of power there are plenty of traction adders available to get it to hook. I wouldn't turn down a good deal on an AWD, but I would look for a RWD.
