Project: Rust Removal on Chrome Wheels

Try a $2.00 bottle of patrolium jelly fro removing rust. Let is sit for a about 1/2 hour and keep adding to it and moving it around with a rag. Then rince it off using warm water and sos pads.

To try and keep the rust from coming back try some spray wax. Since you are using mothers try theirs. Spray it on heavy and buff it off.

My main concern on those wheels would the rust on the bead of the rim. It can cause leaks and busted beads AKA blow outs.

If your concerned about the rust on the inside going through the wheel you will have bigger problems than just rust pinholes loosing air, the integrity of the rim is done for and should be romved from service.

Here's quote I got from a local shop to get them powder coated if dont the way the chrome looks after polishing them. If I went this route my color would be gloss black since truck is dark red.

$ 65 each (set/4 $ 260); this includes sandblasting & powder coating

After its de-rusted, couldn't he use a high temperature clear coat on the outside to prevent the rust return? Otherwise re-dipping them is the only possible move.

If you mean a rust preventive then yes I'll use por15 on the chrome after cleaning the rust off and polished.

If thats what its called. Most companies clear the wheel in a clear coat like coating which is why most detailers suggest to treat OEM polished wheels like paint.
