Any idea what the Part # for a 1999 Chevy Z71 1500 5.3L would be? Is it the same for the later year models? And is it cheaper to buy the GMC part instead of the Chevy "fix-it" kit rip off?

I've had this light on for a while now. Thought maybe it was because I had leaking exhaust manifold. Finally got around to replacing the exhaust manifolds a couple weeks ago, light stayed on, so I took it to Auto Zone and got the P0449 code. He looked up the part there in the store for about $65. Seems to be a lot for a plastic box that some wires and tubes plug into.

$65 doesn't seem too bad actually for the part. The '99 should be the same part number and it shouldn't matter whether you buy GMC or Chevy since they are both gonna be about the same thing. Yes I agree it seems like a lot for a piece of plastic with wires coming out of it.

But it's cheaper to tackle this on your own, dealerships want big time cash for this job.

I ran into a real snag on this deal. My EVAP solenoid is up under the bed. I am not equipped to get in there to do the fix.
Also, GM Parts Direct has a good price on the part, but there shipping is a DIRECT scam. 25% of the cost of the part they say they discounted. Damned if you do and very damned if you don't

How hard is it to get that bed off of there after 102,00 miles?

Taking the bed off is not that hard as long as the mounting bolts haven't seized up do to salted roads and general rust. There are about 6 or 8 mounting bolts you will need to remove, gas filler neck, wiring harness and then you can use an engine hoist to lift the bed. The factory tie downs in each corner are strong enough to support the bed, so just use some ratchet straps and criss cross them then you have your lifting gear.

I know this is old as others have mentioned but all i can add is thank goodness for the internet!! I have not done this yet but looking over the PDF files, it looks simple.

If your engine light comes on and you get the P0449 code. All you need to do is change the EVAP Solenoid and the hose that leads to the gas tank. Do not buy the solenoid that the dealer recommends buy the original solenoid, I will post the pictures soon. This is for a 2006 Chevy Silverado.

The original EVAP solenoid costs $28b and the hose costs $55. You'll find it at any Chevy or GM dealership.
