Cool, I have been thinking of adding a second speaker in the stock door location, but dont want to run an amp for it, thats the only thing that has been slowing me down...

Yeah had I not already put this amp in I wouldn't have even thought about it.

Well right now I have two working components (Alpine SPR-17S) and one working crossover. They are great speakers and I was about to just pick up another set of them.

Essentially one of the crossovers are bad. I already tossed it out, but if one were able to get their hands on another crossover they would work without any issues. The problem is that it's best to match up crossovers designed for the speakers. As long as you can get one close I don't see an issue. I was just too lazy to look.

Also, I've been riding around with one speaker playing for the last few months and I never noticed. My roommate was riding shotgun and noticed it because it's slightly quieter on his side. It's the only reason I found out.


That being said, if you want to pay shipping for them, they're yours for free. I'd likely toss them out otherwise. Now I don't think they would play too well off the head unit since they are power hungry, so you'd have to add an amp. But...you will at least have them on hand. That way when you start working on your audio system all you'd have to find for the speakers is a nice 2-ch amp and one crossover and you're set. If you want them they're yours.

I have some videos on YT of my audio system (which I think you've heard), but it gives an idea of how they sound. They get loud and clear without issue. Even on my cheapo amp. I think they're selling for about $180 on Amazon right now.

Instead of a dremel pick up a hole saw you can get them in deferent sizes, you can buy just one.

Nice, Leo. Hole saw is a much better idea. Plus I won't have to go buy a dremel. That's a good job with the speaker cover. I'm debating either putting it there or somewhere on the a-pillar.


I thought I was going to install them today, but it just started raining so it may have to wait until tomorrow.

So good news, Jeff, looks like you'll be getting some adapter plates with the Alpines. It's a straight switch---no cutting or fabricating required.

What's the word, ever get the speakers installed?

I finally got around to 'fixing' my stereo issues over the weekend. My front drivers side speaker wasn't working, neither was my rear passenger side, and the sub was only working maybe 10% of the time.

Turns out my 300/2 amp powering the sub isn't working, since I can get the sub to work just fine by wiring it up to the rear outputs of the 300/4. Kicker is, the 300/4 isn't putting anything out to the front drivers side, so I moved the front drivers side wires to the rear drivers side output. As it turns out my rear passenger side speaker is shot, so I used that output for the sub.

So now I've got a half-ass fix in place, both front speakers work and the sub plays, though it has much less thump to it now.

So I have the option of trying to send the amps back to JL and get them repaired or just go ahead and replace them outright.

Since I'm leaning towards picking up an AVIC-Z120BT once sonicelectronix gets some more in stock, I'll probably stick with the half-assed fix for a while.

Yessir got them installed and love them. They really aren't noticeably better than the Alpines. They sound a bit clearer at higher volumes but that's about it. I did move the tweeters up where Leo mounted his. They sound much better, but I did have to tone down the higher frequencies because they were a bit more harsh being that much closer to me.

Steve, I had been running a half-ass setup for a while and just got used to it. Now that everything is working it's just that much more impressive. Wait until you get the Z120BT to fix it....that way it's all working at once. You will love that head unit.




Jeff, if you read this, I'll try to dig out the speakers for you while you're up here. It's essentially two working speakers, one working crossover, and one working tweeter. I noticed as I was switching them out that one of the tweeters had gone out, too.
