Not sure how I forgot to put the vid in here

I pulled the head and made my modifications.

Turns out it is in much better shape than I expected.

This especially surprised me. I've got 2 years of running the engine at WOT for hours on end at angles that tend to short the engine of oil...but you can still see the cross hatching.

Took my dremel and opened up the intake port on the carb insulator. Before it was about the size of a dime and now you can drop a nickle through it.

The main modification I made to the spare carb was on the throttle.
The brass one is an interchangeable part to show how much thinner the modified one is. Should allow more air at WOT.

Hauling ass in those shallows looks like fun. That thing has held up well.

I decided to check out Lake Placid (no relation to the low budget movies...but some gators would do VERY well in this little impoundment).

First I'll do the bird pics

Things were going very well. I couldn't hear anything going wrong in the engine and it was covering water at a good clip.

Did some speed tests and set a whole new personal record. Before my top speed on flat water was just barely touching 16 mph. Today, I put on my 7.5" prop and could hold a solid 17 and touch 18 if the prop was riding just right. Looks like cutting and polishing the butterfly plate pivot is the biggest return for effort on these little engines.

Just to make sure it was a safe gain I pulled the plug. Looks good.

But after a while I heard a sharp tone change and found the muffler was about to fall off.

Decided to call it a day and went home. Got a new exhaust fabbed up. Not pretty but it'll hold.

20 is pretty good, especially for a longtail. My 20 hp Merc will push my 20 foot jon boat 20 mph. Granted it's a jet outboard so it loses some power there but I think it's a good comparison.

Just spent $300 on a $100 engine, but with billet flywheel having 8 degree timing advance and no obtainable redline, billet connecting rod with +0.02" length for increased durability and compression, high torque marine cam and heavier valve springs, the boat should chug along a little bit faster.
