You should be able to replace the solenoid on the starter separately on those. Sometimes if the solenoid is going out you just get a click.

Thank you. I'll give that a try. I just hate the starter location on these trucks

Noone like the location of these starters. A sorta fix for that issue, get a starter and solenoid off of a 96 or newer 350 from the DIY salvage yards. They are high torque, pull less juice, have more power and are about 30% smaller giving you more room and getting the solenoid away from the block a bit.

I had thought about that, but had read that with a hot engine the 350 starters might not turn over the engine well at all. Is that not true? Just wondering... I might make a run to U-pull-it to see about that.. I need to find a tailgate there anyways

So is this build list an actual doing list or a dream list??? I'll assure you we can tweek it and save some funds along the way. No axle upgrades huh other than the lockers??? Why selectable locker in the rear??? I'd go the other way around. Detroit Locker in the rear, and air locker in the front. If you're on tight trails you'll wish that front wasn't locked up. Also a limited slip is better in the front for some occasions, but the ultimate is selectable locker. You can have it OFF on the tight trails, on only when you need it, and you can also lock it up and only lock in 1 hub so the other one free wheels, so you'd have better options. You're rear can stay locked all the time and won't hurt a thing. I have a few buds, we can get you all hooked up on anything you need to know or do to that truck down to every bolt and every wire in it. I'm currently building an 85 K1500 that I drive daily, and also an 85 K10 that is in progress.

Dream list lol. I actually need to update it some based on some changes I made at work last night. But I'm more than happy for suggestions in terms of better ideas :)

I like where you're going with it though. Don't forget the upgraded Alternator, the Big 3 upgrade and things like that to power the Compressor, Inverter, and off-road lighting.
Uprated alternator is on my list. I'm researching now to find out the best option... What is the big 3 upgrade? Searching for it got me a bunch of random articles on google...

I've never heard such a thing. Unless you're talking about the OLDER 350 starters. Alot of guys get this newer gear reducted started so they have a bit more cranking power when the motor is hotter from advanced timing, and the smaller starter also will allow more air around it, so I'm not sure how it could be any hotter or work worse than an old school starter. Gear reducted is always better. Kinda like a gear change in your rear end from 3.08's to 4.56's.

Ya know, it might have been something about an older 350 I read that. I'll definitely give it a go.

So then how will you access the front 5 feet? I assume reach over? And you're talking about a 6 inch lift and tire? You're going to need an 8 foot step ladder to be able to get access. :dunno:

I was thinking a2.5 inch lift. And as for the front five feet, hinging the platform in a couple places to use it as horizontal cabinets. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I want to lay it out

Pulled off the grill...

That's a messed up transmission cooler. Something else to add to the list

Looks like this had the original bumper turn signals... That they spliced into the new ones they put on metal plate

And the front as it stands now

Looks like I'm gonna completely redo all the lighting wiring on the front side of the firewall...

Tore into the electrical a bit, mainly trying to get my lights fixed, plus replaced the headlight switch.

Does anyone know what this is for?

And in the end, there was light :)

And my headlights now only work when I'm accelerating, so I still have a loose wire. Need to get that fixed becasue I start a new job 5.5 hours away friday morning.
Also need to do whatever I can to squeeze MPG out of that ginormous motor. Already put a new air filter on it, replacing plugs tomorrow morning.
