You should be able to replace the solenoid on the starter separately on those. Sometimes if the solenoid is going out you just get a click.

Noone like the location of these starters. A sorta fix for that issue, get a starter and solenoid off of a 96 or newer 350 from the DIY salvage yards. They are high torque, pull less juice, have more power and are about 30% smaller giving you more room and getting the solenoid away from the block a bit.
I had thought about that, but had read that with a hot engine the 350 starters might not turn over the engine well at all. Is that not true? Just wondering... I might make a run to U-pull-it to see about that.. I need to find a tailgate there anyways
