Was going to replace the oil pump with a Melling 77 standard flow ..
Took the factory GM pump apart just for a look-see ...

Dang thing looked like new, so it will see a new gasket installed and go back into service ..

The Oem main cap windage tray and bolts has been a ongoing search ...

Could go with the aftermarket ARP studs, but do like the GM studs better ..

Had a problem with the fit of the boat oil pan ...
It requires a special pump pickup tube, the stock tube that was on the motor was hitting the casted in baffles ..
Found the Mercruiser factory part number (809772T) for their tube and tried to buy a new one ....
That didn't go very well, hadn't been make for 30 years, so the hunt was on for a used one ..
That also didn't go well .. Made bout 40+ calls with no luck ..

Thoughts turned to aftermarket pickup tubes, talked with a tech at Melling's and got one of theirs, that we think might fit, on the way ..

Me too !

Pickup will be here today ..
Soon to see if I got lucky ?

Still needing to order some Hi-dollar parts, double roller timing chain, Comp cam & lifters are on the bucket list ...

Really wanting to replace the peanut port heads with 781 reworked heads !
That's pretty far down on the list at the moment ... Need is for buying the used heads, O/S valves, 11/32" guides, springs and doing the work it'll take to complete the assembly ..

Have no choice but to put that endeavor on the back burner ..

" Lucky " .... I don't know bout dat ...

Got 15/16" gap ... That's a bit more than I'd like to see ..

Ok, not going to use that pickup tube, went with the next size up ...
It was a bit to long, but with some bending got it sitting where it belongs ..480044684_10232412233587008_4074921775735681654_n.jpg

Oil pump pickup job is over and done ..

Moving on to oil control in the pan ..

A few parts are needed to be had in that area ...

Crank oil scraper ...

1739650064132.png

GM windage plate and main cap bolts ..

1739650189432.png

And windage plate number two from Milodon ..

1739650312224.png

Not sure about having the room for the super long aftermarket plate ..
Will find out when the fitment goes down ??

----------------------------

Nailed down a set of 6 GM bolts and the GM windage plate ...
Still have the aftermarket parts to get ..

Slowly getting all the needed parts together to do the lower end oil control ...

Did you put this project on hold, or are you waiting on some parts? :D2

Waiting on some parts, GM windage plate and the main cap bolts are in route ..

Nailed down a part from the past that will go well with the valve covers & oil pan ..

It has grooves ...

Also found a oil fill tube that was used on a van ...

Having the fill tube will make it easier to add oil without climbing on the fender ..

Oil dipstick is still in the thinktank.
Got a couple of ideas on how to make one work ..
It will be long in order to be reached from the front of the engine ..

That's bout it at the moment with the motor ..

Body work is going well ..
Just about ready to shoot the firewall, weather turned cold waiting for warmer weather ..
