Its true, you do need to know a little bit about choosing a cam before you buy one, and need to know what you intend to accomplish. You hear people say, I gotta 292 duration 505 lift cam for a SBC and WOW, that dude will run. Not neccasarily. Its gonna run good for one purpose or another, but it might not be the purpose you intended. Lobe center angle is very important too. You get the wrong lobe center angle, you can have all top end and worthless for launching in a 1/4 mile if that is what you are building the motor for. MIght be great for a roundy round car, but you don't take a roundy round car to the drag strip. So yes, its important to know what you are buying. But, because of the confusion, most cam manufactures will give an idea of what the cam is for and the power band range. But that is not always accurrate either, becaue the same cam is not going to perform the same in a 283, as it would a 350, stroker 383 or SB400. If you have already bought your cam, installed it and not happy with it though, all is not lost. You can always have your cam degreed and dialed in where you want it, for the motor to perform like you want it too. I prefer to buy the cam I want and install it timed straight up and not have to degree it or dial it in.

If your running juice, I have not doubt, you know what you are talkng about in choosing the right cam. But many do not, like the need for differant springs, or long slot rocker arms for high lifts, or higher compression pistons to compensate for valve overlap and losing compression. And yes, you can be happy with a biggo cam if you have the right hardware to go along with it. I am pretty much reffering to the dilberts out in the world, think just gonna get big cam and go fast. Doesn't work that way.

I really wasn't being serious. I was attempting to be funny. I pretty much agree with everything you said:thumbs:
