How do I repair a battery maintainer?

I think this one a cheap one so buying a new one is not a bad idea. However, I want to learn about this stuff. I learned how to rebiuld ngines by doing. Before I started I had no idea a crank shaft had bearings. Now, I have a new multimeter and no idea how to use it. So, this charger breaking is a good chance to learn something. And maybe it will save me a little money. Now, how do I check the parts I should check? I found out (with the use of my meter) that power is getting through the coil to the board. Now I have to find out what is bad on the board. How do I check the little bulbs to make they they are wokring. I might just have a blown light.

Sadly most things are made to dispose of when they die. If you could get a schematic for it, you could check all of the components.

Check the voltage at the alligator clamps with your voltmeter. See what the reading, if any, is.

Well there is some troubleshooting in the factory owners manual at the Schumacher site, which I found with a single Google... But I know you have already taken those steps

Like stated above, see what readings you get when you have it plugged in and hook your multimeter up to it. Then follow what is posted above. It is my first route to fixing things I don't understand, Google is your friend.

You are missing the point.

You are asking a few dozen people rather than the Internet which has data from billions. If your question was about how to remove a stuck manifold bolt, okay, but how to repair battery tender model number SG-212DS that may or may not have been damaged by incorrectly being hooked up to a battery is a question better suited for Google. You'll have better luck with troubleshooting by reading the manual, available on the Internet also, or by finding someone through Google that has had this, or a very similar experience before.

Most of us will just have to go and Google the answer ourselves given this specific topic.

Thanks for the link.

I actually did not expect to find some one here to know this particular model insdie and out. I was hoping for a conversation with som eone who knows the peices in the pictures. If I had an understanding of the individual peices I would have a better idea of how it works. Repiaring it is not as important to me as understanding it.
