Ok, so you are looking for high mileage used truck, 10 years old or older and if you find a 3/4 or 1 ton for that kind of money, its gonna be beat and abused to hell and back since in most cases, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are used for work and abuse.

You might find a 96-98 GM Vortec truck for that, not likely to get an LS motor truck for that, even in high mileage. Someone above stated a GMT-400, and I'll agree, thats about right on target. So hopefully you can at least get a Vortec powered truck. If not, you are stepping down in the same body style to TBI in GM trucks.

You could probably find a well kept late model 400 single cab with 4X4.

Yea, I know its gonna be limited on the price range. I back in 97 I found a 88 f150XL for 7,500 with 32,000 some miles 2wd. That was my first vehicle too.

Dave my brother bought a GMC HD diesel truck last month with 118,000 miles on it for $18,500 he loves it and it's in super good shape oh it a 4x4 as well and the trans is H.D.
