Don't feel so bad 66Nova, I go to the other job and say I have 3 tranny jobs lined up, and you oughta hear all the hell I get with a comment line that. I actually wish it were those kind of tranny jobs. I sure wouldn't have to be building transmisisons if I was skilled enough to add hooters and chop off wackers and make cooters out of them.

I didn't even see your above post, but as explained, all my 400 cores are BPO bellhousings. No Chebby. But anyway, I got that other funky azz trans all boxed up in parts, the rebuild table cleaned off tonight. I also decided to go ahead and move the new core to the table, remove the pan and take a look. By the fluid color and cleanliness inside so far, I think you got a builder this time. Here is pics for you to compare the 2. After posting these, I'm outta here. Its almost 3:30am and I'm tard !!!

You should have no problem telling the difference between the funky filthy core and the new builder. Hard to beleive the funky trans case has been thru the vat for 3 cycles and the other hasn't even been vatted yet.
Man im glad we got the new case and its it good shape with those extra things on it like the pan, thicker housing...along with that stronger sprag and better parts its going to by the dream tranny-just mo iceing on the cake-u think u might be able to have it done by tues?-im biting at the bits to do something. Iv been cleaning a pair of 305 heads and eyeballing that 350 on the stand. Thanks again
Hey, I hope to Allen. I know its gonna be a great one now. Things happen for a reason, and you are right, with the combo of advantages from both cores, you're gonna have the best of all features in this one. The modern benefits along with the old benefits that GM changed to save money and made the trans weaker. So you're gonna have the best of the old and new. I do hope to get it together ASAP, but another set back today, and I may need to be at my dads 70 miles east of here by Tuesday. He had a little accident today with a gun and shot hisself in the leg. He's going to be OK, but he's gonna need some help for awhile and his wife is in AZ visiting for the Christmas holiday already.
Sorry to hear about your dad-keep that wound clean. Take care of Dad i can wait but yea on the tranny it is going to awesome. Let us know how dad is doing...
I'll be working on it all I can. Just getting home tonight, 1am after working all day, then gonig to my bro's to pull a motor. Then I remembered you said my hoist don't work. So we have to rent a hoist in the morning and I work tommorow afternoon. Just tied up trying to get him some transportaion for work, me working, and getting ready for my son to be here the day after Christmas for a week, now this with my dad too, and I have to go out there Tuesday to take him for follow up Dr appt. He is about out of pain meds, trying the stretch them out so he's in alot of pain and can't get any more pain meds til he sees his family doc. Here is a link to a thread of what he did.

I understand you got alot going on...if we make it after xmas that be ok. I don't want you to get in a hurry...take care of your stuff.

Thanks Allen, yeah mega going on, and several projects lined up after yours too. Falling way behind. But yours is on the bench and partially tore apart, so nothing else is getting done until yours is, since I won't open up more than one model at a time on bench and get parts mixed up. After your 400, I have my bro's 350 and of course my 700r4 comes last. Somewhere in there in between all those i have to build a patch job motor for my bro too to get him by until he can afford for me to go thru his motor completely.

My engine hoist needing a new jack is a big set back too. I tried to find a rebuild kit for it and no luck. Harbor Freight has a 3 ton cylinder jack for $46 for shop cranes, and a 8 ton cylinder jack for $55 that are direct bolt ins. If I do it, I'll spend the extra $9 and get the 8 ton. I think they are the same outside dimensions just the 8 ton has a thicker ram and I'd imagine more packing and seals, so its likely to last longer.

If you are just pulling a 350 u might try it mine was a 454 and i tried taking the heads off and intake and bout everything else i could and it would go up and come down slowly but :dunno:maybe i didnt tighten that locking bolt tight enough and a 350 does weigh alot less you taking the heads...off anyway? It might be worth a try. I know with as much stuff u pull out with it u probably need it later on though. If you need some of that money are something i can bring to you 2mor or something-let me know-thanks again for taking on the trannny from hell and still swinging at.

No, its shot. I loaded the motor into the bed of my truck with a forklift, then put the engine hoist behind it. Got to my bro's and the 350 engine is just a long block without intake etc. It just lightened the truck a bit cuz I see the truck lift up a bit, but it woudln't even lift it off the truckbed. So I went and bought some hydraulic jack oil and filled it since it was low, actually almost out. Still didn't work, but the more we pumped it, we could see the new oil coming out the pump valve. If it were just o rings I'd fix it, but I am certain its the valve and gonzoed. Its time though. That hoist has got to be at least 18 years old. Of course it set more than it got used, but that's just as bad as using them since the seals harden. They don't last forever.

Thanks for the for the offer on the jack. I couldn't let you pay for all of it. But you have gotten some use out of it a few times, and probably will in the future too, so if you want, I'll split it with you and get the better 8 ton jack so it lasts a good long time and we know it'll lift them big blocks and maybe even with Turbo 400's attatched if the geometry is safe for the weight. It won't be cuz the jack is weak is my point. With tax it oughta be $60, and $30 each. That won't hurt near as bad. This is the dude right here. http://www.harborfreight.com/8-ton-super-heavy-duty-long-ram-hydraulic-round-bottom-jack-36397.html Its already got the mounts on it for the hoist an all. Ready to bolt in, and comes with a new handle that fell off my trailer one day, and when I had stopped to pick up, some dickhead in the left lane going the other direction picked up and split on the green arrow. Go figure, he had to see me stopping to get it. Guess he needed it pretty bad huh???

Probably after Noon o Clock would be good. I am supposed to have some guys come pick up those printers out of my shop between 10am and Noon. Hopefully they'll be gone by Noon. Then I need to get out to my dads in the afternoon to stock his firewood if he needs it, feed his dogs, and maybe take him back to the Dr.

I got the case all stipped down. This came apart nicely. It had been rebuilt before. I noticed it had Raysbestos clutches in it, and those aren't factory, so I know it had been gone thru. Bands must not have been replaced though. They look worn and burnt a bit. Everything else looked good. The case is at the machine shop now. Rhonda says I can pick up anytime Thursday or late Wednesday.
Got the jack too. The engine hoist is working great again. And the 8ton was an upgrade. Mine originally had the 3 ton jack. The 8 ton bolted right in its place though. Keep in mind that doesn't mean its rated at 8 ton now. You got consider the geometry of the boom, but still, it should safely be upgraded to a 2 ton hoist now. Bring on the Big Blocks with the T400's connected.
