You're sure it's the pan gasket? A common place for leaks is at the location where oil cooler lines can be connected. Without the cooler lines there is a block-off plate. Can be mistaken for pan leaks

Drill the pan and install your own drain plug. Easy to do. You can braze the fitting to the pan, which is what I prefer to do. Or bolt it up using the 2 included seals. About $4-$5 at most places Dorman 65128 Drain Plug

You say this is a DD. Are you towing heavy loads with your 'hoe? The OEM setup should be adequate. If you really want to keep your max temps down, then install a larger radiator with more cooling tubes to aid in heat transfer. As Texas Jim said, the thermostat will not let you drop below it's...
