I noticed yesterday that I have oil seeping from the oil pan gasket now.
Is there a write up anywhere on replacing the gasket? Its a 2001 Chevy with a 5.3 engine.
And does the transmission need to come out or moved back some?

You're sure it's the pan gasket? A common place for leaks is at the location where oil cooler lines can be connected. Without the cooler lines there is a block-off plate. Can be mistaken for pan leaks

You talking about that thing on the rear drivers side of the pan with two bolts on it? :dunno:

I have also had the bolts loosen on the oil pan (or else the gasket just shrank a little). Just tightening everything up fixed the leak.

Is it all around the pan? On the passenger side, behind the starter, there is the crank position sensor that can leak

Did you check the rear wiper arm? Could just be loose.

Good thing to do is clean up the engine the best you can and then see if you can locate the leak. Like Darral said those are two places it can come from and make it look like a pan leak. Also check the torque on the pan bolts as well to make sure they are snug. Otherwise the back of the rocker covers could be leaking and running down as well making it look like a leak.
