Do not change that Taboe's thermostat to a different opening temp. Ever. A cooler running engine will not be more efficient in that particular vehicle. This product will not make that engine more efficient
Can you elaborate on this a bit for my educational purpose?
thanks
I am not Scott (Penguin)... but my thoughts are...
The engine in the Tahoe is controlled by a computer...
When it is first started, it is running in
OPEN LOOP... basically this is a
RICH FUELING condition for better driveability when the engine is cold.
When the engine warms up, it switches to
CLOSED LOOP.
In closed loop, the Engine Control Module uses data from the O2 sensors, TPS and various other inputs to instantaneously adjust fuel mixture, idle speed and timing according to what is being needed at that instant.
If you put a cooler thermostat in it, there is a very real possibility that the engine would never come up to the proper temperature and enter
CLOSED LOOP.
If that happens... your fuel mileage will suffer and by it always running rich, it will destroy the catalytic converters in pretty short order.
Also various
"SERVICE SOON" warning light will soon appear on your dash.
