Do not change that Taboe's thermostat to a different opening temp. Ever. A cooler running engine will not be more efficient in that particular vehicle. This product will not make that engine more efficient

Can you elaborate on this a bit for my educational purpose?

thanks

I am not Scott (Penguin)... but my thoughts are...

The engine in the Tahoe is controlled by a computer...
When it is first started, it is running in OPEN LOOP... basically this is a RICH FUELING condition for better driveability when the engine is cold.

When the engine warms up, it switches to CLOSED LOOP.
In closed loop, the Engine Control Module uses data from the O2 sensors, TPS and various other inputs to instantaneously adjust fuel mixture, idle speed and timing according to what is being needed at that instant.

If you put a cooler thermostat in it, there is a very real possibility that the engine would never come up to the proper temperature and enter CLOSED LOOP.

If that happens... your fuel mileage will suffer and by it always running rich, it will destroy the catalytic converters in pretty short order.

Also various "SERVICE SOON" warning light will soon appear on your dash.

Thanks Texas Jim

On another note
I just ordered an AutoCal and Black Bear Performance Tune. Before I do anything (by that I mean changing the coolant) I'll talk to Justin from BBP and get his take on this. I think I'll just stick to what I've been using, the traditional mix.

Again, thanks boys.

You say this is a DD. Are you towing heavy loads with your 'hoe? The OEM setup should be adequate. If you really want to keep your max temps down, then install a larger radiator with more cooling tubes to aid in heat transfer. As Texas Jim said, the thermostat will not let you drop below it's set temp. These engines are designed to run and operate efficiently at the current temp

You guys are right. I'm not doing anything extreme with this truck. All I was trying to do was to try out a different product and see if it improved things just a little bit.

Sometimes these things work out sometimes they don't. But its by doing what we're doing here right now that we learn.
