It was recently serviced so it looked good. I think it was a cover up from the seller or he knew it was going bad...

Did you pop the axles out and see if you just snapped an axle shaft?
No I haven't even had time to think about it. I have a couple properties with big events this week. I should be starting Maintenance tomorrow of all my properties but I have a stone pathway to install. I hope to be done by at least lunch....
Back to the truck. When I leave it in gear and listen to the differential all the loose pieces are clanking with the center.
Not ruling out bad axle shafts. I guess scared to see what's inside.
Possibly the best option here is a already complete rebuilt carrier swap.

Why buy new when you can restore?
No matter how hard it is to take, you gotta open it up.
Maybe it is just broken axles. A rebuilt carrier swap is an option, but couldn't you just find another rear axle entirely? I guess it comes down to how popular this truck was.
