Im not sure. I have not pulled the cover off yet. I was going to check the gap and look for burnt points. Could they cause a problem with the coils?

It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, the points control the firing of the coils. You have 2 coils, correct? If so you have 2 sets of points. Thats the way my CB750 was set up.

I am clear on that. I know the coils are bad. I am trying to figure out what made them both fail so that i dont burn up the new set.

The points close the circuit to complete the spark but the igniter is what sends the high voltage to acheive spark if I remember correctly.

After you check over the basics and before you start buying expensive shit or taking everything else apart, free it up, lightly oil the cylinders, turn it over a few turns, feed it a small amount of gas and try to start it. The carbs are going to need a rebuild most likely, but you'll know if the ignition system is operational.

Thanks JIM. I put a little seafoam in the cylinders today to remove the moisture. I was going to put a little marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and turn it over with the rear wheel since I dont have a kick starter. Do you think the marvel with effect the clutch?

Won't hurt a thing.

I'd change the crankcase oil before starting it though. Pretty easy on those bikes.
