yeah, tough to follow. An automatic will never go into gear with engine off. It won't do a thing cuz the front pump is not turning to pump pressure, so that is normal. With engine running if its not going into gear, then several things can be wrong. Like bad pump, direct clutch pack wore out etc. So hard to tell. But, this is not an electronic trans, so the shift indictor not working is not sign of anything other than the string that operatres it in the colum is probably broken. Trans needs a rebuild. PERIOD !!!!

Ya all I know the trany is toast from what others told me about it.
I wish I was closer, I'd buy that core off of you. Keep in mind, the 88-92 cores are more preffered. Doesn't mean they are worth any more money, but it just means you are likely to sell it. Noone that knows transmisisons wants to buy 82-86 700r4 cores. I get those for free and don't even use them unless I need a compatible hard part out of it.

And what good is a 350 that slips gonna do you? Are you putting it in the same truck to get it rolling??? I wouldn't do it. The cost of driveline mods and getting the 350 rebuilt, just get the 700r4 rebuilt and be about the same or at least close to the same money. But, I thought you bought this truck for the motor to go into your 3/4 ton hoopty mobile??? Why you need a trans?
