VW Jetta, FTW.

Always loved me some VW's and have owned several, but damn their reliability problems. They are the best driving cars I've driven, if they could simply make them more reliable. The most reliable water-cooled VW we've ever owned was a 2000 Beetle GLS. Great car! Only problem we ever had was a re-call concerning the transmission casing being porous that was handled by VW very easily.

About the OP, the Fusion and the Focus are both great cars for the money. I'd have to pick the Fusion out of the two.

We have an MKV Jetta with almost 50K on it and it's pretty well been trouble free and gets over 30MPG on the highway.

Great looking and handling car. Our Beetle had 136K when it was totaled in a wreck while my wife was 6 months pregnant and not wearing her seatbelt. The car that hit it was a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire that looked like it hit a pickup truck! I couldn't believe how well that Beetle held up in the wreck. The damage of course outweighed what the insurance company wanted to pay and they totaled it. With 136k on it, we still received almost 9k from the insurance company! Comparing the 2 vehicles, the VW won that battle for sure and my son being born is proof of how solid that little car was! Don't get me wrong, I'm still debate picking me up a new GTI! :naughty:

It would be a secondary vehicle also because 2 of 3 trucks dont run or need work.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
At $3/gal if you bought a car that gets DOUBLE (30 vs 15) your truck's mileage, that won't offset the cost of the vehicle ($30k over 5 years, which is conservative) unless you're driving 60,000 miles per year! :willy:

I don't really care if you buy a new car or not, but just wanted to put it into perspective :dunno:
