I got my 3.0 pulley put on this weekend and thought I would do a quick how to. Pretty straight forward job but I know you guys like pics, so here goes.
I got the pulley from pulleyboys.com, they have pulleys for just about everything.
I installed the MagnaCharger Radix mp112 back in April. It had a 3.4 inch pulley on it and performed well with about 6.5 ~7 psi of boost but like most I wanted more after I got used to it. So I got a 3.0 inch pulley which should yield in the neighborhood of 10.0 psi of boost.
3.4 pulley:
First off remove the serpentine belt.
Remove the blower snout support.
Using the homemade pulley removal tool, grip the pulley and remove the nut.
Now using preferably a small 3 jaw puller remove the pulley. For the life of me I couldn't find my small 3 jaw and had to use a large puller in 2 jaw fashion due to the size of it. That 3 ton puller is a little overkill for this project but I was not going to run out and buy another tool.
Here you can see the 3.4 (Chrome) and the 3.0 (Black).
Now to aid in installing the pulley I stuck it in the oven for a little bit at 150 degrees. That caused the pulley to "swell" enough to slide right on once it was straight and aligned with the key. Let it cool down and reinstall and torque the shaft nut. 45 ft. pounds is the toque spec on the nut for a mp112 Radix blower.
Reinstall the blower snout support brace.
With this pulley change it required that I went with a shorter belt, so I picked up a Goodyear Gatorback, 6 rib belt.
Install your new belt as per your belt routing diagram and check the adjuster and tensioner for proper preload.
Double check all of your work as well as alignment of belt. If all looks good crank it up and check everything over very closely. If you're satisfied go for a test run, gather some log data and look over your tune or consult your tuner for any adjustments that need to be made.
I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the results. The truck really gets up and goes quicker now. Gears are next.
I have a chart with belt/ pulley sizes that I will post up later, it's on my laptop. The chart will tell you what belt you need with which pulley size. Only pertains to GMT800 trucks with a Radix, but should be helpful to someone.
