It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
HEY! I have an idea, lets take a food source and burn it in our vehicles! It will cost more to make then it it will bring on the open market, uses more energy to make it then it provides to the end user, but hey, who cares if the mexicans don't have corn to eat.

Sounds like a damn good idea to me.

I think I want to do that...
Where do I apply for the great big, huge, Government grant to subsidize this stupid shit that we will force down the public's throat... whether they like it or not??

There's actually not a lot of truth to this argument. People actually eat a very small % of the corn grown out there. A majority of it is fed to livestock.

The Ethanol process is really a simple chemical reaction. The yeast turns starch/sugars into Alcohol. You then run it through a huge ass still and up the purity to 100% alcohol.

The reason livestock feeders add corn to their feed rations is for the gluten/protein. This is more or less untouched during Ethanol production. The Distillers' Dried Grains (DDG) left over is a high-protein product you can use to feed. Livestock need the carbohydrates in their feed, but that portion of a feed ration usually comes from hay or grass anyway.

Now the political sides of things, that's another argument all together. I don't know the history of oil production in the USA, but I'll eat my hat if those guys have never been given a tax break.

All I know... and this is just my opinion...

ETHANOL IN GASOLINE SUCKS. :fume:

In the last several years, since they started putting ethanol in gas... with numerous cars that I have owned...
They all, without fail, get better mileage and perform better on REAL GAS, than on the blended crap.

I drive about 75,000 to 90,000 miles a year.

That has been plenty of time and mileage to check it ... over and over again.

You guys are entitled to your thoughts and opinions too. I just wanted to correct the factual discrepancies I saw.

I haven't had any issues with the 10% ethanol gas here. Ethanol is being produced in great quantities using other products these days too. I'm sure this has been politicized somewhat by whatever media outlets someone chooses to listen to.

We'll leave that to them in here.
