Does anybody know anything about those portable tire inflator/aircompressors that plug in to your cig lighter? Which brand is best for being well used? Which one has the longest cord? Which one works for completely flat tires?

I used have one of those campbell cordless ones but I killed the battery in cause it wont hold a charge now. The battery costs the same as a new one. I also was using on flat tires on a truck/suv when it wasn't made for it. Made for inflating small tires up to cars not trucks/suvs.

I've had one for years and year but I couldn't tell you the name of it cuz its worn off now. I've used it hundreds of time for many vehicles including bicycles and my ATV. I've inflated the tire on my truck twice when it was 100% flat. It took a long time, but it did inflate it. It plugs into the cig lighter and the cord is long enough to reach all the way to a back tire on my suburban, but I will usually use the plug in my cargo area. I also find that it inflates a bit faster with the engine running as opposed to using it with my truck off. :dunno: I guess cuz it then runs at 14 volts instead of 12.

I have a little one I got from Sam's. I couldn't tell you the brand off the top of my head and my mom borrowed by truck to run to the hardware store. I'll go look at it when she gets back. I've used it many times. The cord is long enough to reach anywhere around the truck. I've been pretty happy with it. It goes pretty slow, but that's expected with it's size and like Scott said, it runs quite a bit better with the truck running.

I've got one I bought years ago from Home Depot. It's Husky brand, has a light and the compressor, the hose and the cord stow in the bottom, under a screw off cap, and it even has feature that lets you dial the pressure you want and it'll shut off when it gets there. The cord is j u s t long enough to reach all 4 wheels on the g/f's Dakota but I made up an extension for it so it can be used on the trailer tires too.

Takes about 8-10 minutes to fill a stock 215/75R15

So how did you make that extension since the one end has of the compress cord already has the cig lighter plug on it?

I know black and decker has jumper starter unit with a tire inflator on it but its around 80-90 bucks. I have jump starter battery but I bought just for lawnmowers. Its not really made for using it on full size cars or trucks. Its made by everstart.

20 feet of 14 gauge zipcord and a plug and socket from Radio Shack.

I was at Big Lots and the wifes van rear back tire was low so I asked them at the front counter can I see if it's going to work on my van outside they said OK so I went outside and it let more air out. DON'T buy one there.
