Another Stuck Pedal Case

I have read that to stop the engine on those pushbutton start cars, you have to hold the button in for over 3 seconds to make it shutdown. Which is good in most cases since you wouldn't want to swat a mosquito and accidently shut off the car.

That being said a good addition to the feature would be if the button was pushed rapidly several times in succession the car would shut down. In a panic you would be punching the crap out of the button. I know I would be.

That would be a great idea J, cuz you know it does not seem that long, but 3 seconds even at only 60-70mph, you can cover alot of ground. Also if they had a 911 switch on the Drive by Wire mechanism. Cuz there will come a time, when some has to use the button you refer too, and at 70mph some one will not expect the steering and brakes to be hard and they won't be able to steer it or stop it, thinking they lost that too. Just a bum deal all the way around. I hope they get it fixed. Not only do I not have 1, but I sure don't wanna get hit by one.

However, other manufactures have had a feature in place for years that will kill the throttle if you press the brake.

Car and Driver did a test of several high performance cars. They stomped the go pedal ran up to a predetermined speed, then stomped the brakes while keeping the go pedal floored. EVERY car stopped.

There is obviously more to it than that. Something is causing these cars to not stop while under SUA that is not being replicated in these "tests".

But keep believing it's all the driver's fault, not Toyota's. Let's exonerate the car and blame the drivers while were at it. That should save Toyota LOTS of money.

YES, we get it it, there is driver error in a lot of these cases, but that does NOT mean Toyota is faultless. They need to figure this problem out and fix it and stop crying and blaming the media. The bottom line is these people should not and would not have to make these emergency decisions if the problem didn't exist.

I'm not saying that unintended acceleration does not rarely happen, but it should NEVER result in a serious accident if the driver actually has a clue. NEVER.

You can't tell me that a vehicle will not stop accelerating when shifted into neutral.

It’s a mechanical linkage, there is no computer involvement. I am not blaming these acceleration problems on the consumer, but the idiocy of them not being to stop is ridiculous.

This is just the latest media witch hunt. MANY other manufacturers actually have a higher number of complaints for UA, but apparently only Toyota has owners incapable of shifting into neutral or stepping on a brake. ONE THING this has done is bring out the Toyota Haters Club in full force.
