Put me in I'm ready, I have always had good luck with Fram filters. I always thought they were the best until I got on these forums and found out everybody called them junk. I still say they are goo and the study is crap.

Well??? Where is the updated data??? Getting close to time for an oil change. Looks like another Motorcraft filter going on the Chevrolet Big Block. Unless of course, the Lab test is done and the Fram is better.

From 1st hand use/view, I have seen 3 engines(LB4 Vortec 4.3L, 5S-FE 2.2L, and EGA 3.3L) increase wear and oil consumption after they were switched to a fram filter, with the same brand/ weight oil. I had noticed after several oil changes, increased metal deposits on the drain plugs. I have also noticed an increase in oil consumption.

I dont know if this was a coincidence or not , but both engines are meticulously maintained and have had no problems prior to change. I am not going to run an analysis on these, as I can visually see a difference. Plus, the "customer" nor I are willing to spend the cost of one.
The "you get what you pay for" has convinced them to switch back to the (Wix) filter I had recommended before. Since the change back, all 3 appear to be running back to the pre-fram switch.

:dunno:
With all due respect, your kidding Mr. Amsoil! Are you actually saying that a Fram filter somehow did some kind of mechanical damage to the engine that caused it to burn oil, and then the mechnical damage somehow "repaired" itself after switching to another filter? I am a ASE master tech who has been building engines of all kinds in my shop for over 30 years. What your saying defies the laws of physics. Please do not spread misinformation. If you could possibly offer a shred of explanation about how an oil control ring or valve guide/seal could be damaged by an oil filter to the point of increased oil consumption, and then it is repaired by another brand of oil filter to the point of no longer using oil, I would love to hear it. Whats in the WIX filter, engine rebuild in a can?

Trader! You are supposed to be using AMSOIL filters. :jester: :jester:

The Jay makes very valid points. It is amazing how the net can start something just from ones opinion.

FRAM has gotten a bad rap. You seem to hear more about how someone has used them and that the filter took a turn for the worst and it ruined their engine. The main issue here is that I would say by far FRAM is the most widely used oil filter and so the odds of a faulty one making it to the market are great compared to others. As usual anything bad will spread like wild fire on the net.

I had a friend that ran nothing but FRAM oil filters and Castrol oil in his 86 Toyota pickup and he had over 300k miles on it with no issues. He contacted Toyota about a commercial since he had such high mileage, at least back in the 80's it was considered high, but they didn't return his calls.

I know that all the tests that AMSOIL does like their motor cycle oil study and gear oil study get bashed by individuals stating that it is biased since AMSOIL did the study. What most do not realize is if the tests were not fact then it couldn't be printed or AMSOIL would have a major issue with law suites from the other manufactures claiming so.

So if FRAM came out and did a study and it showed their product was better than others the same thing would probably happen.

You can't satisfy everyone. Even if an independent lab that had no connection to any specific product did the standardized tests you would find nonbelievers. It is sad to say but true.

Jay, as we all know it is the net and if you are who you say you are, we all would welcome technical info on FRAM filters and how they compare to other brands. :)
You can google my name or motorking and find out I am definately who i say I am. We obviously test all competitors filters. If we published results, they would be disputed as biased. If we used an independent test lab, we would be accused of bias because we paid for the study. Now- I am telling all of you you should be asking whatever filter company you like to send you results of ISO4548-12 filter tests. We publish these results on our website. www.fram.com. I will post a lengthly post monday explaining how you inerpret this test. I am also going to post a letter with contact info I just got from a guy who has a 2002 S10 pickup, been using FRAM since new, has 410,000 miles and is running great and not using oil.:D2
