You sure are putting some serious time and money into this project. Might I add...you have some skills.

Crappy weekend but I managed to get a little done on Sunday.

The wife's car crapped out on our way to lunch Saturday so had to have it towed to the dealership hopefully find out what's wrong with it Monday. :ohnoes:

Received some front fender support tabs, these should be the last items I'll need for the cab repairs, I hope...

Started cutting out the old rocker panel, a pillar, b pillar, kick panel and floor section.

Almost done welding the floor section in, still have a ton of grinding to do but it will slick up. Started fitting the B pillar patch, went ahead and sliced it because I knew that the shape wouldn't be right anyway. I'll fill and weld the gap before I fit the cab corner in.

After I cleaned up the garage I was looking at the cowl and knew it would be rough inside, so I drilled out the spot welds and sliced it open. Just as I suspected I have more work to do in there.

The bright side of the weekend, my suspension is finally shipping.

How did that thing get so rusty in Texas? Was it parked on the beach? :dunno:

The truck is 44 years old, spent most of its life in East Texas where it's pretty moist and Sandy. But you have to also keep in mind that when these trucks were built there was no dipping or galvanizing of the panels to protect from corrosion. They slapped the trucks together then painted them. I noticed some bare shiny metal in the rocker when I cut it off.

The areas that I have rot in are the common areas on these trucks. As far as these models are concerned this is considered normal.

Actual it's pretty much rust free compared to a lot I see on the forum. Another factor is how the cabs are built, there are a bunch of seams that have irregular joints then rely on seam sealer to keep the moisture out. After a period of time the seam sealer shrinks and water starts getting in the cab and hidden areas.

Most of these areas have weep holes but leaves, grass and dirt can clog them up and it lets the water start doing its thing. When I'm done I will seam seal the shit out of this thing and hope for another 44 years out of it.
