Got a lot done today, all of the front and rear suspension has been removed. I'm down to the point of lifting the engine and trans out then removing the last two cross members. Made one heck of a pile of junk with all the stock stuff. Gotta get my engine hoist and trailer so I can transport the large pieces to the storage unit.

Was a total tear down your original intention? Or, did it kind of snow ball? That is how my builds usually go. I plan for something simple and before I know it I have truck pieces laying all over my yard.

Kind of sorta!

My original intention was to slam the truck. After doing a bunch of research I decided to do a full Porterbuilt Suspension as opposed to just Z'ing the frame. So all the stock suspension is getting yanked.

Well our little truck show is in the books, brought in over 1900 vehicles. I didn't have time to take pics but if you search Lone Star Throwdown you will find a shitload of coverage.

The vendor that I bought my stuff from brought my spindles and brake kit to the show so I snagged them and checked things out.

Rear Pads,

Billet hubs,

Rear calipers and bracketry,

McGaughy 2 1/2" drop spindles

Front caliper and mounting bracket

To fit the calipers on these spindles I had to drill and tap a couple of holes and cut & grind down some spindle material for everything to clear. Nothing like taking a brand new part out of the box and cutting it up. :D

Top spindle is modified, bottom is as received.

Mounting bracket in place:

Caliper mounted to new spindle

The question was asked about removing that much material, how strong would the spindle be when you applying the brakes?

This is a pic of the pieces I cut from the new spindle to mount the new caliper. The piece on the left shows the thickness of material in current mounting location, the piece on the right is the original caliper mounting area. I measured the two areas, original is 9mm thick and new mount thickness is 20mm thick. So the thickness is more than double at the new location.

Still have parts coming in, new rack and pinion, u-joints and steering shaft.

Ridetech shocks.

And a new T-shirt. :D

Gas fill hole delete plate and bed stake pocket delete plates.

Engine and transmission finally pulled from the frame and headed to the storage unit.

And the frame is split finally.
