Why Do Family Cars Need 300 Horsepower?

There's no really need for any engine with more than 6 cylinders in many of the new cars (and even trucks and SUVs) sold back there in America.

Maybe I don't NEED a huge fridge with built in icemaker and cold water dispenser...
Maybe I don't NEED a 60 inch Plasma TV...
Maybe i don't NEED a 3500 watt surround sound system...

But I have worked hard all my life and I can now afford it...

You're right, nobody shouldn't just dictate what we should buy. I'm not trying to tell you to get rid of your Caddy just because it has a V8, I was just pointing out that a smaller engine could work for other people if it was available

There are a LOT of things I don't NEED... but I want them.
I could drive a smaller car with a smaller engine... but I don't WANT TO...
I will continue to buy the biggest car with the biggest engine they make.

If I was buying a new truck today...
It would be a GM.
It would be fully loaded with every option available.
It would have the biggest engine available.
Right now that is the 6.2L

The heaviest thing that would ever be hauled in it would probably be a couple of sacks of fertilizer from local home improvement box store.

But I just flat out don't CARE that a stripped truck with a 4cyl or a V6 could do the same job...

I will buy what I want, when I want.

If that makes me a bad person in someone else's eyes .... I don't care about THAT either...
