Well, I think it's time to find a different shop to take my truck to.

As I noted yesterday I ran into a little problem with my truck and had to have it towed to the local shop that I've dealt with. (Just a note here that I like to do my own repairs, but my big GMC won't fit in my garage, and my driveway has a 30 degree slope, which makes it kinda hard to do work on it)

It used to be, at this particular shop, that the owner's son was the lead mechanic, and the kid was good, really good. But sometime over the last six months he moved out and opened his own shop. The guy they have now used to be their #2 guy and he seems to know his stuff but he's really bad about keeping the customer in the loop. A good example is not letting me know he wasn't coming back with the big tow truck yesterday, after going back to the shop for it. True, I hadn't given him my cell #, but the shop was less than a 1/4 mile down the road. How hard would it have been to drive back and tell me?

Anyway, I went to the shop this morning at 7:30, even brought him a cup of coffee, and went over with him exactly what I wanted him to do... Change the starter cable for a heavier gauge, charge the batteries, see if it cranks/starts, etc. I gave him the OK to change the cable, starter, lift pump and oil pressure switch, as needed, and I gave him both the house # and my cell # and told him to call if there were any problems. We even specifically discussed what to do if he couldn't get a heavier cable for it (call me and I'd make one for it), and he promised me it would be ready by 1:00 PM

I called him at 2 and he was out on the road (this shop is a Budget truck rental dealer and repair depot) but they got him on the radio and he said he'd be back in 10 minutes. I called back at 2:30 and asked him if the truck was ready and he says, "Well, the biggest cable I can get for it from the auto supply is 4 gauge" That's it. That's all he'd done on it all day. Called the auto supply for a cable then just let it sit because he couldn't get the 2 ga. I specified. Never called me, never even took out the batteries to charge them.

As you can imagine I'm super pissed right now, so I told him to just get the 4 gauge cable, put it on, charge the batteries and I'd be there later. The place closes at 4 PM, so I know I sure as hell am not getting the truck back today, but I also know, sure as hell I'm not taking it back there after this.

MAN. That stuff can get frustrating. I don't think many shops have anybody that actually has rational or logical thoughts. Hope ya get it worked out.

Thats why I only go to a stinkin shop is for the safety inspection. Cant find a good mechanic for anything over here in winchester,va and not to mention that the dealerships service dept. is worse.

Well, I went over to the shop at 3:45 and had a chat with the owner. Suffice to say my truck is now running and home again, and the mechanic, and the owner stayed there until 6:30 to make sure that happened. They even drove my g/f's truck to the train station for her, so I don't have to go pick her up.
