Well the top 2 company men (Mulally and Ford Jr.) just pulled in 56.2 million and 42.4 million respectively for bonuses, so it does seem to be like the unions are asking for way more than they deserve.

They also saved the company from failure. That's worth a bit more than bolting cars together, IMO.

I'm not trying to say the numbers are the right numbers, just that unions are fucking dumb.

OSHA and other organizations are around to maintain safe working environments, etc. There is no need for a union like this in today's world.

The 2 of them did not save the company from failure; they were the leaders who were in charge when they enacted the debt restructuring plan to convert debt notes. They had 4.8 billion in debt that they converted into stocks that equaled approximately 50% the total dollar amount. The workers took concessions in all aspects of their contracts with the understanding that they would get some of them back when conditions improved. With Ford giving nearly 100 million in bonuses to 2 employees I think the conditions improved. I understand that unions are not well liked here, but dumping on the ones who actually make your product and do a damn good job making them is not going to win any support.

Amen!

But I'd also like to see the people taking the 46 million dollar bonus go down in flames too. Thats like stupid money... just ridiculous.

Seems logical to reward them to me. (Again, I'm not condoning the numbers, just the act.)

They took concessions against ridiculous contracts.

We're only suggesting dropping unions, not the employees.

While you and I probably agree that unions have for the most part outlived their usefulness here in the United States, they still fight for the rights of the workers. I disagree that unions are able to hold companies hostage while on strike for things like pay and benefits, but sometimes they have to so that the workers are respected. I've also seen where unions have given concessions to the company and relaxed labor agreements and the company turns around and moved large portions of the manufacturing overseas eliminating thousands of jobs. Unions are like the military, you have them but we as the general public never really want them to be utilized.
