I think that'll be to small for his needs.
The Kubota LA481 is a personal favorite of mine. You might think it is a little bigger than what you need but front end loaders on tractors are designed for mulching, pushing snow but when you get to dirt it gets to the point when you are pushing payload abilities. It's not so much an issue of capacity but more so an issue of the hydraulics, will they actually lift the load?
The LA481 has a lifting load of 1048lbs but even a wet load of dirt can breach that.
I couldn't give you any solid reasons why you should buy the Kubota over any other brand or John Deere for that matter. Likewise, I'd be hard pressed to convince you for any reason why you should buy a John Deere over a Kubota. They are both good tractors!
This tractor may be a little older than what you are looking for but I am sure there is a newer version to be comparable.
