Traveling has become a part of my new job, that's until my account managers are able to get me more local business. The better gas mileage over my truck would be nice, but I still want to have a little fun. I miss my 04 Grand Prix GTP Comp G. I happened to see a 06 Monte Carlo SS the other day and took it for a test drive, WOW, a 5.3L in a car! It has Displacement On Demand to shutdown 4 cylinders at cruising speed. It would also be nice to have 4 doors, so the 07 Impala SS comes into play. Both cars are loaded: leather, sliding sunroof, etc, etc.

Will Black Bear be able to tune?? :naughty:

What do you think? Comparing the 2, spec-wise, the Monte is a little shorter, less weight, but not as much cabin room. Monte sticker says 18/28 while Impala is 17/24 for fuel mileage. But since it's really me traveling do I need to worry about the extra room and just settle w/ a coupe?

I'd go with a 4-door personally. Coupes with long doors are a pain to get in and out of in tight parking lots, plus the 4-door will have higher resale value and be more usable.

If you have to regularly carry anything in the back seat... and I mean ANYTHING... you will come to hate the coupe and wish you had 4 doors.
The 4 door will also be easier to sell later on..

That being said...if you "KNOW" you will not need the 4 door... with everything else being equal...the Monte Carlo "MIGHT" get a little better mileage on the road.

Can Black Bear tune it? Yes!

If you think you "might" need to chauffeur around (or even take to dinner) any clients do not get the coupe! You'll turn off people quickly with the coupe, if they're having to get in and out of the back seat. For that matter, you might turn off some clients just if they see it, because you're not really "prepared" to haul them around, if need be.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably want the coupe. But, I'd probably get the sedan for those "just in case" situations.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
Gonna have to put a LOT of miles on it to pay for it in gas savings. :jester:

But I'd go 4 door. Makes it a lot easier to get things out of the back seat. Much like the extended cab truck vs crew cab trucks. :dunno:

Yeah I have heard they are pretty bad in the gas mileage department and their transmissions are a very weak link.

I agree going from a V8 truck to a V8 car is not the best way to achieve fuel savings...

Actually financially that is not a good decision at all...what little fuel you save is not gonna matter with the added insurance, inspection, and registration...unless you were getting rid of the truck.

Other than that. Get the impala. Just like owning a gun..."it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

Good luck with whatever you decide.

The Monte has a HUGE ass trunk, so if it is just carrying things, DOO it, if you need to carry other bodies, Impala it up!
