The adjuster is here. I flat out asked him about my iPod and other stuff missing. He said the way the policy is worded, they do not cover any personal property under an automotive policy. It should all be covered under an extension of your homeowners policy. An automotive policy will only cover something that is physically part of the vehicle, or permanently attached to the vehicle solely for use in the vehicle. I explained that although my iPod, GPS, and flashlight were not physically attached or mounted, they were solely for use in my vehicle. He said all that is a gray area, along with radar detectors. He said he feels they should be covered, but he doesn't make the rules. :dunno:
He said he only deals with vehicle damage, I will have to call and try and fight with them on the other stuff. He is out in his van now, writing up his report and estimate.

Don't even waste your time trying to fight for the iPod, GPS and light. You won't get them back and you'll just piss yourself off trying.

I know it sucks but adding frustration on top of anger is not going to help. :(

If you know you live in a shady area, I'd suggest you shouldn't ever leave anything like that in your truck anyway, alarm or not. Get yourself a little Pelican case or something similar and just carry it in and out of your house to your ride when you leave. I have one for my boat that holds my boat keys, the depth finder and my waterproof camera. It goes when I go, it comes back when I do.

I diagree what he said. If its in the vehicle then its part of the vehicle reguardless if its attached or not. Maybe I should call insurance company to whats covered under my mom homeowners policy.

Too bad disagreeing doesn't rewrite the policy while no one is looking.

Dave, make sure to check your auto policy since that's the policy in question. The homeowner's covers that stuff, it just generally requires a deductible to be paid.

This damage estimate lists some of the parts as "recycled" . I confronted him about it and he said its common practice to use recycled or reconditioned parts on a vehicle over 10 years old. Is this true or should I fight it?
The main thing I want new is my AC panel since it is less than 3 years old. I got a brand new one from the dealer in 09.

I dont think its covered since all i have is liability with state farm. State Farm told me anything older than 10 years doesnt need full coverage unless car payments are being made.

Used parts don't surprise me at all. That said, if you can't find a used part that is of sufficient quality, I'd revisit.

It's all a balance of what you can afford each month versus what you can afford if your truck went up in flames.

That should be stated in the policy.

The ins company will dick you out of everything. Fight it, especially if you have proof of said purchased items.
