I don't thing comparing a diesel in a SUV that drives a few miles a day to a truck that does some work is a fair comparison.
I'm at 37K miles now and I haven't had to top mine off yet, still.

You better top it off in the Hoe. You know, just in case. We wouldn't want you to run out. I believe those don't have a separate DEF tank so you just dump it in with the fuel.
