Straight piping=better mpg?

Ok, so i've been seeing folk on other sites say you can get better mpg's with straight piping a diesel. Anyone actually know this true for a fact? I already wanted to straight pipe it, but would love a couple extra miles a gallon on top

I suppose removing the back pressure created by the muffler might add a TINY bit of better fuel economy, but I can't see how it would add even 1 mpg. Sounds like people who want a loud straight pipe justifying their mod to me.

may see one (max) mpg if that was the only change. its best paired with a programmer to get full effect.

Yea, haha, i'm guilty of doing stuff to my F-150 and justifying it with a reason lol. And good, i'm already preparing to buy a programmer. Just still stuck and confused in the huge market of them. I have no idea which is best

The Cummins actually "likes" a little back pressure to run right. You see them all the time with the 5" monster exhausts or 6" stacks and they are dogs off the line. From what I have heard, the turbos don't spool as quick if there is no back pressure, but I don't know that for sure.

Well, if you had a DPF I would say yes, for sure. But with your 24V I would say it would be minimal at most. But boy I sure love the sight of a straight piped cummins rollin some coal

Hmm...interesting. Thanks man, mine already doesn't spool up terribly fast as it is so i don't wanna do anything that'll make it even worse

O i know, i love blowin some smoke and hearing that sound of a straight piped cummins. There's one in town thats the 3rd gen style truck but man does it sound sweet

HA, well i'm fairly new to the scene, drove this truck on and off for a few years but now that i own it, and its my daily driver, i get wat all the fuss is about. I miss alot about gas trucks, but dang do i love the diesel. Even if EVERYTHING is more expensive
