the mds on my ram does a good job, little annoying at times now that i have exhaust but still like it
I have no clue what I'm missing out on here but I'll go with what I see is left.
Hemi's have the same V4-V8 it's just referred to as MDS (multiple displacement system) on Dodges. If you are thinking of getting a blackbear tune to help out the driveability I would assume he can get rid of the AFM. I know on Hemi's a Diablosport predator handheld can get rid of it.
I recommend you go back and drive it again but leave it in Tow/haul mode while you're driving it. That should tell you if it's just the way GM tunes the tranny or if it's really the AFM you don't like. My 2010 feels like a slouch at times driving normally but in Tow/haul it seems to come together just right which tells me it's all in the tranny that I need to make some changes.
That's like saying an I6 is the same thing as a V6 because they're both 6 cylinder engines. They're completely different systems... so just because someone may have an issue with the 3.8L V6 doesn't mean they wouldn't like the 4.0L I6. See what i mean![]()

I fully understand what you are saying, but it would seem logical that if he is appose to the cylinder deactivation in one brand a person would be hesitant to purchase another with a similar technology. I agree that they are different systems, but not all together that different. From the description I have read about Chrysler's MDS vs GM AFM they seem to work in a similar fashion.
I'm not an AFM/MDS hater. I have driven my truck with and without it (Black Bear tuned) and I will say it actually does help. Not a huge amount, but I am averaging about 1-1.5mpg less with it turned off. I think the people that didn't see any loss probably drive their trucks hard enough that it was rarely on. The only reason I turned mine off is because I tow frequently and it would try to come on while I was towing. Obviously it didn't have the power so it would switch back and forth.
I also wouldn't buy the 4.8/4 speed combo. Not when you have the 5.3 or 6.2 with a 6 speed as an option.

what exactly did you test drive? a half ton i assume?
what options are you trying to get? trim level?
you can get into a lower level truck with the NHT package (6.2l,6spd,3.73 ratio with 9.5" rear end) like mine for alot less than the common 6.2l 3:42 geared trucks on the lot (most that i seen like that were all SLT or LTZ trucks), mine was 37K canadian so i could only imagine how inexpensive one in the US would be, BUT they are only available in Ext. cab and CC designations. I can easily get 18-20MPG unloaded highway. (untuned, only a muffler swap)![]()
. custom seats, mirror caps, rims, grill, black bowtie with white outline just it was 51k
I am looking at Ext. cabs though. so i might look into them.It still comes on in tow mode??

Just a basic Z71 package LT. I really fell in love with the all terrain sierra they had. custom seats, mirror caps, rims, grill, black bowtie with white outline just it was 51k
.
Only reason i haven't looked at the 6.2 is i dont need anything that big.I am looking at Ext. cabs though. so i might look into them.

@ RobertYep, AFM still comes on in T/H mode. The tranny tuning is the only difference.
You know, I have the right and the power to automatically ban you for saying "you don't need anything that big". Most of us don't NEED anything that big. I don't need a black bear tune, Jrod doesn't need a Maggie, you don't need a lift, etc. I see that again and you're gone.![]()
