So dealer tells me My Super Duty needs a new engine...

Well, this morning, I fired up the truck (2009 6.4L diesel, ith 116k kms), it immediately was missing on one or two cylinders, an the service wrench light came on, So I let it run for a good 5 mins to see if it changed, it did not. I ended up driving it to my Shop, which is 15kms or about a 15min drive. I parked it and hopped in with another guy and went to work. One of the guys from the shop took it into the dealer for me, he said it ran fine.

I get a email from the office saying my truck needs a new engine, I immediately call them and say bullshit!!! But after calling the dealership they said #2 cylinder has low compression and the engines blow-by is beyond acceptable limits.

I`m totally shocked, it was running fine the day before. They are going to tear into it tomorrow to determine the cause, but my guess is an injector must have stuck open and washed a cylinder? could it do that so quickly? It only seemed like it had a miss...

This is all fucking wierd...

I've seen a bunch of late model Ford diesels dead way too soon. The newer ones seem to be better but they are still having issues.

Dealer said they are gonna short or long block it depending on whats bad. Must be a cost thing.

Better be warranty, they just did the injection pump and injectors less than month ago, all under warranty....

Shop rates for a dealer to rebuild an engine is out of this world. It's way cheaper for them to get a brand new or factory recon engine and stick it in.

That sucks! I have read where the owner has pulled the dipstick to check the oil level and it was overfilled. Turns out it was full of diesel where an injector stuck. Usually you can get by with an oil change and injector replacement. For it to have killed a cylinder it must have been running like that for a long time for that cylinder to have gone down.
